Q. 70. What is the seventh commandment?
A. The seventh commandment is, Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Does this commandment concern our own and our neighhour's chastity? Yes: for this is the will of God, even our sanctification, 1 Thess. 4:3. Is it needful there should be such a commandment? Yes: for since all are gone aside, they are all become filthy, Ps. 14:3. Is it agreeable to the light of nature? Yes: for Abimelech called adultery a great sin, Gen. 20:9. And is this command for the public good of mankind? Yes: for whoredom and wine take away the heart, Hos. 4:11.
