Q. 76 What is the ninth commandment?
A. The ninth commandment is, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

1. Does this commandment concern our own and our neighbouur's good name? Yes: for a good name is better than precious ointment, Eccl. 7:1. Is there need of this commandment? Yes: for every neighbour will walk with slanders, Jer. 9:4.
