Resolution 84:06: Abortion
Whereas, the Scriptures plainly condemn abortion, “These six things doth the Lord hate . . . hands that shed innocent blood . . . .” Proverbs 6:16-18 (KJV). “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Proverbs 24:10-12 (KJV); and
Whereas, those seeking abortions paid for by the Federal Government through Medicaid have been prevented from getting such abortions for the last 28 years due to the restrictions of the Hyde Amendment; and
Whereas, President Biden’s new budget proposal no longer includes any reference to the Hyde Amendment, thus allowing federal funding of abortions through Medicaid; and
Whereas, it has been estimated that the Hyde Amendment has saved over 2.4 million lives since 1976 and
Whereas, the Scripture recognizes the duty of civil servants to protect the dignity and sanctity of all human life (Romans 13:10, 2 Samuel 23:3). Now, therefore, be it
Resolved that the 84th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Cape Canaveral, Florida, August 5-9, 2021, calls for the Hyde Amendment to be continued and that all efforts be made to protect the preborn.
