Resolution 83:01: A Call for the Preservation of Life
Whereas, the Word of God clearly condemns murder and states that He hates the murderer. “You shall not murder.” Exodus 20:13. “These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.” Proverbs 6:16-19); and
Whereas, human society has always recognized the taking of innocent life as murder; and
Whereas, there has been an increase, especially among those who practice and support the taking of life by abortion, to further willingly support and perform post-abortion infanticide; and
Whereas, this stands in clear opposition to God’s revealed will in His Word, is a departure from both our constitutionally recognized right to life and liberty and the societal view of morality throughout history among civilized nations; and
Whereas, this growing trend is reflected in recent findings by the Center for Disease Control, stating that 362 infants have been the victims of post-abortion infanticide in the last decade; therefore, be it
Resolved that the 83rd General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Tacoma, Washington, August 1-5, 2019, calls on the members of our various state and federal legislatures to reject laws which allow for the crime of infanticide, institutionally or otherwise; and be it further
Resolved that the General Synod urges all Christians to protect this precious right to life for both the pre-born and the post-born, regardless of age.
