A Resolution to Seek God and His Mercy and Forgiveness
Whereas God is the Lord and there is no other God.
· (Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God.)
Whereas God, the one and only God is the Creator of all things.
· (Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.)
Whereas God created men and women in His image to know Him and to live in obedience to Him, to show His goodness and glory on the earth.
· (Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.)
Whereas God has given to mankind His law as a reflection of His perfect righteousness and, therefore, as direction and teaching in righteousness
(2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.)
And, whereas a people who live in flagrant rebellion against God’s good and righteous character will suffer both God’s judgment and the horrific consequences of their rebellion.
And, whereas the people of the United States and Canada have lived consistently in rebellion against God’s righteousness.
And, whereas the people of the United States and Canada have rejected en masse the gospel of Jesus Christ which alone grants men and women a new heart, pardon from sin, sanctification to righteousness, and a renewal of righteousness and holiness and true knowledge (Ephesians 4:24, Colossians 3:10, Ephesians 2:1-5, Ezekiel 36, Hebrews 8)
And, specifically,
Whereas, the people of these United States and Canada are beset with evils in our land, such as:
Abortion, which has killed 63 million of our fellow human beings and continues at a rate of over one million per year, continues in the land under the protection of the law of the land, contrary to God’s righteous law, and continues devastating the lives of women and men.
Addiction to drugs, especially methamphetamines, heroin, and fentanyl, is rampant in the land, destroying lives and families.
Violence against women and children, by enslaving them in lives of prostitution by human trafficking networks.
Violence in the form of mass murder has come into the school systems.
Corruption in every level of government steals the peoples’ property.
Therefore, be it resolved by the 87th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Olympia, Washington, August 1-5, 2024, that a convenient day of praying and fasting during the period of September 1 through September 30, 2024, be recognized throughout our churches.
Be it further resolved that we confess our sins and shortcomings, individually, and as a church, before the Lord of Glory. And we beseech the Lord, by the power of His Holy Spirit, to bring great confession, repentance, and renewal across our land.
Be it further resolved that we, as servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, seek God’s mercy upon our lives, and churches, and land. And that we implore our God not to withdraw His hand of blessing from us.
Be it further resolved that we ask the Lord Jesus to heal our land and remove from our land the violence of human trafficking, addiction, abortion, and corruption.
Be it further resolved that we ask the Holy Spirit to fill our halls of government, our classrooms, our businesses, our churches, and our homes with the peace, love, and the joy of righteousness.
Be it further resolved that we pray for the upcoming national, state, and local elections in these United States. That we seek God’s blessing upon these elections, that God would protect us from evil in these elections.
(1 Timothy 2:1, 2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.)
Furthermore, we call upon all those who are able and inclined to do so, to join in the season of prayer and fasting that we all might humble our hearts to receive God’s grace and mercy, and that our lives and churches and communities, states, and nation might be renewed in holiness.
