Question 68
What is required in the sixth commandment?

The sixth commandment requireth all lawful endeavours to preserve our own life,1 and the life of others.2

Ephesians 5:29. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.
Matthew 10:23. But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.Psalm 82:3-4. Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
Job 29:13. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
1 Kings 18:4. For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.
