A Resolution on Race, Theology, and Ecclesiology

Whereas racial movements (e.g. Race Realism, Kinism, Christian Identity, British Israelism, Critical Race Theory) assert that a redeemed man remains in the sin of his race, opposing the transforming grace of God by denying the transforming power of Christ, as illustrated by Scripture: (Rom 1:16, 2 Cor 5:21) and denying the sufficiency of Christ’s atonement for all peoples. (Gal 3:28-29); and

Whereas racial doctrines often promote intellectual supremacy as a basis of racial distinctions, undermining the universality of the doctrine of original sin—that all men are fallen in every part, (Rom 1:18; Rom 3:23), the doctrine of sanctification, that all men require the renewal including their minds through Christ (Rom 12:2), and superimposing distinctions of intellect over confessional distinctions of authority between Superiors, Inferiors and Equals (WLC 123-133); and

Whereas doctrines of racial animosity stir up racial tension, strife, and condemnation, thereby promoting both civil strife and disunity in the church, and thereby opposing the gospel that Christ brings peace to all nations (Luke 2:14; Eph 2:14; Isa 9:6), through his unifying his church (Col 1:18-20, Eph 3:10); and

Whereas doctrines of racial screening for admission to the preaching of the Word, sacraments, and exclusion from oversight are not the practice of a true church; and

Whereas forced racial segregation in the body of Christ is a denial of the Spirit’s work of unifying all into one Body of Christ (Ezekiel 36:25; Joel 2:28; Acts 2; Gal 2; Gal 5:22; 1 Cor. 12:12–13) and a sin against the Spirit’s work of unity (Matt 12:31, Mark 3:28); and

Whereas the Doctrine of Separation teaches that we are to separate from the world, from sin, from evil, and from the Children of Satan, (2 Cor 6:17) but not that we are to separate from any of God’s redeemed people based on race; and

Whereas Moses entered an interracial marriage that was opposed unjustly by his kin, Aaron and Miriam (Num 12), and God judged against Miriam, affirming the rightness of Moses’ marriage; and

Whereas other Biblical examples of interracial marriage approved by God include Salmon-Rahab, Ruth-Boaz, Judah-Tamar, Joseph-Asenath, and David-Bathsheba; and

Whereas no true Church may disapprove of marriage on a racial basis; the scriptural model of Christian marriage being according to like faith and with respect to consanguinity (WCF 24); and

Whereas refusing fellowship based on race (Gal 2) or preferring one man over another (James 2) is the grievous sin of partiality; and

Whereas racial doctrines claim sexual immorality marks certain races (like those descended from Ham and Canaan), against the Scriptures which record sexual sin among many nations (e.g., Canaanites, Egyptians, Sodomites, Hebrews, Edomites, Corinthians),

Therefore, be it resolved that the 89th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting at Orlando, Florida, August 5-7, 2026, calls for Christians everywhere to beware of racial philosophies that threaten the unity of the Church and which promote racially segregated ecclesiology.
