Memorial Resolution: The Rev. G. Thomas Proctor, M.D.

George Thomas (Tom) Proctor was born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 15, 1924. Growing up in the Great Depression, he was drafted in World War Two. He was sent to medical school by the United States Army and repaid his debt by serving in Germany and Korea after the war.

God used the preaching of Carl McIntire to awaken G. Tom Proctor and his wife, Kathryn, in the early 1960's. Shortly after that, in 1964, the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign Missions invited Dr. Proctor to an exploratory trip to the West Bank to take over the Baraka Sanitorium, founded by Thomas Lambie. After a season of prayer and counsel, Dr. And Mrs. Proctor took their three children, ages ten, seven, and not-yet one, to serve as missionaries from 1966 to 1975.

Through years of spiritual and political turmoil, Dr. Proctor, together with Dr. Howard Carlson and Mr. Daryl Creamer held forth the Gospel and ministered to body and soul. Upon leaving the mission field in 1975, to care for a dying mother, he-returned to private medical practice, but always with the desire to further the spread of the Gospel. Dr. Proctor served as pulpit supply at Sandy Springs Bible Presbyterian in Maryville, Tennessee and was an active supporter of the Bible Presbyterian congregation in Nashville.

In 1985, Dr. Tom was one of the organizing members, and first President, of the Presbyterian Missionary Union (PMU), through which he continued his passionate support for the work of evangelizing the nations. He made many "safaris" in Kenya, both as a medical doctor in Mwingi and as a lecturer at Faith College of the Bible. Later, when his youngest son was serving in Uganda, he made several trips there to support and encourage.

Christ Jesus redeemed a man, plucked from the fire, and he gave the rest of his days to living out that thankful joy of the Great Physician who alone can truly heal. The Lord called his servant home, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren, on February 25th, 2008. He now stands before the King of Love and the One who we see dimly in a mirror, he now sees face to face. Dr. Tom now knows even as he, and we, have always been known. (1 Corinthians 13:12,13)
