RESOLUTION 76:05: On the Instability of the PC(USA)

By the time the 220th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) completed its business on July 22, 2012, it was evident that the denomination will continue on a path far from the Scriptures it once held sacred. The decades’ struggle over sexual issues has precipitated an unprecedented exodus from this once august body. Those remaining were more concerned with the unity of the body rather than simply obeying the clear commands of scripture dealing with marriage and purity. Even the General Assembly’s Moderator, Neal Presa, expressed his frustration when he said: “We keep voting and talking and listening. And yet we find ourselves divided.”

The inability of the PC (USA) to take a righteous stand on an issue that has plagued them for so long is symptomatic of the seriousness of their problem. A cursory examination of the denomination’s path over the past decades reveals that it stands with Israel of old, when the prophet Elijah asked them: “…How long halt you between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.” (1 Kings 18:21).

The General Synod of the BPC, meeting at the Lakeland Bible Presbyterian Church, Lakeland, Florida, August 9-14, 2012, once again implores those within the PC(USA) who wish to remain faithful to God alone, to heed the admonition of II Corinthians 6:14-18, leave the PC (USA), and attach themselves to a faithful Bible-believing body that carries on the Presbyterian tradition.
