Resolution 78–03: The Presbyterian Church in the United States of America

The Presbyterian Church in the United States of America (PCUSA) recently concluded its General Assembly in Detroit.

The GA voted to approve an amendment to the denomination’s Book of Order to change the definition of marriage from “a woman and a man” to “two people.” That motion, which would become part of the PCUSA constitution June 21, 2015, if ratified by a majority of the denomination’s 172 presbyteries, passed by a margin of 429–175.

In a vote on June 19, 2014, the assembly passed an Authoritative Interpretation (AI) to allow pastors discretion to conduct same-sex ceremonies in states that allow such unions, voting 371- 238 in favor of the motion.

When the infallible standard of God’s Word and the subordinate standard of the Westminster Confession of Faith are set aside, then the pursuit of that which is an abomination runs rampant.

The 78th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting in Olympia, Washington, from July 31 to August 5, 2014, adheres to the Word of God as our only infallible rule of faith and practice and to the subordinate standards of the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. We call upon faithful members and ministers of the PCUSA to repudiate these departures from the faith and to separate from the unfruitful works of darkness and to join a God-honoring, reformed church body. The apostacy of the PCUSA must be abandoned.
