88:01 - A Fresh Call to Prayer
Whereas, Holy Scripture calls on believers to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6); and
Whereas, there is a growing dearth of common sense and a growing ignorance in our society at present; and
Whereas, godly wisdom among believers, the exercise of sanctified common sense, is also on the wane; and
Whereas, the supply of young men for the ministry of the Word of God in the United States is sinking at a critical rate, potentially creating a spiritual famine; and
Whereas, there is a growing spirit of rancor and agitation throughout our culture at present coupled with an increasing bigotry, the limiting of free speech, and an intensifying attitude of intolerance; and
Whereas, many are looking for the correction of these deep-seated problems through political parties, personalities, and policies; and
Whereas, these matters are indicative of a culture in decline under the providential judgment of God; and
Therefore, be it resolved that the 88th General Synod of the Bible Presbyterian Church, meeting August 6-8, 2025, in Cincinnati Ohio, calls on Christians everywhere, to humble themselves and to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Praying that God in His grace would deliver us from insensibility and indifference in things temporal and spiritual and unite our hearts to dear His name.
Lamenting the shameful display and approval of what is sinful in a land whose chief founding father declared, "Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that National morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."
Confessing that our land is unique both in regard to its privileges and to its guilt. An innumerable multitude of natural, providential, and religious benefits has distinguished our nation. We have enjoyed unprecedented civil and religious freedoms. And yet, this light and liberty,has been placed in jeopardy by our worldliness, our sin, and our rebellion. Weeping over the overt sins of the godless and the coldness of our own hearts. Praying that our God would, through the grace that is ours in Jesus Christ, bless and work in us both in our private and public worship. Grant us the power to pray and make supplication for ourselves and all men and women. Raise up to Himself young men ready and willing to prepare for and carry out the work of the ministry. Restore to us a healthy sanctified common sense and keep men and women from the
